At its best, giving is an act of worship!
Outside the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall of China entrance were noisy souvenir and food peddlers. While most of the vendors were persistently persuading us to buy from them, I noticed a middle aged lady so very much engrossed in reading a book as we passed by her stall.
Finally, she attended to Connie as she browsed at some items in her stall. When she placed down the book, I couldn't help but check it out. It looked so familiar even though I do not understand the title written in Chinese. I politely asked her, 'Bible?' as I pointed to the book she was reading. She could not understand me, there was a big language barrier between us. Then I said, 'Jesus?' Her face lighted up and said repeatedly and excitedly, 'Yesu, Yesu!' She then showed me a few more of her books hidden behind her stall! At that moment there was no barrier between us! At the name of Jesus... at the name of Yesu, we understood each other! At the name of Jesus, we were in one accord, glorifying His Holy Name!
Praise the Lord! God bless her!
Philippians 2:9-11 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
She had barely taken off her jacket upon arriving at RGC when I saw her take something from her mother’s hand and then hurriedly ran towards me. “Here Pastor, here Pastor,” she exclaimed with a big beautiful smile in her face as she cheerfully handed me her Sunday offering. She then proceeded to help the Praise Team in setting up for worship service. Then, time to play!
First things first! Her mom said that she had prepared her offering at home first thing Sunday morning! What a wonderful lesson from a little child in setting our priorities in life and doing it cheerfully!
Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
2 Corinthians 9:7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
P. F. Chang’s restaurant was busy that night. Noise was coming from different directions; laughter, normal conversations, the clanging of the dishes and silverware brought joyful noise to the room as people celebrated the New Year! We were already passing the food to each other when I noticed 3-year old Samuel, quietly seated with his head bowed down and and hands clasped in prayer. Apparently, he did not hear me end my prayer. His Dad leaned towards him and whispered, ‘In Jesus Name. Amen!’
When we pray, we pray in the “name above all names,” a name given for our salvation and one that when invoked sincerely can bring us the grace of God.
“There is no other name under heaven given to men whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
“And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” (John 14:13-14)
Luke 2:51 - But His mother treasured all these things in her heart.
Mary witnessed a remarkable character of the 12-year old Jesus! The young boy had been separated from Mary and Joseph for 3 days. When they found Him at the temple, He affirmed His divine Sonship and His mission to do the will of the Father, “Why is it that you were looking for Me? Did you not know that I had to be in My Father’s house?” (Luke 2:49)
“Mary and Joseph did not understand what He was saying to them. Then He went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But His mother treasured all these things in her heart.” (Luke 2:50-51)
Treasured Moments is a collection of many of life's moments that stayed in my heart. They made me smile at the time of their occurrence and hoping that the reader will enjoy the story as well. As I reflected upon the events, beautiful lessons that glorifies the Lord are revealed, learned, and are best treasured in the heart!
